Web 2.0 and You

Web Design in Denver web 2.0Often clients will, sometimes even with a little bit of embarrassment ask me what web 2.0 is. There is no need to be embarrassed, as there is even some disagreement with the web development and design community. Without going into a 50 page diatribe, here is a quick explanation.

Because technology changed so rapidly in the last 8 years on the web, there was a revolution in website design and development. There were many entrepreneurs who started creating sites like Wikipedia with the idea that if everyone contributes a little bit eventually we will have a ton of information in one place. Then people realized they could have group contributions from multiple sites for a huge battery of reasons. This led to many developers creating social networking sites like MySpace, Facebook, it led to video sharing sites such as YouTube, and photo sharing sites like Flickr. Quickly people realized there was a “common” platform in which to build, link, share and embed other peoples really cool pre-built tools and content into their own sites. Rather than users of the web just being consumers of content, we are also contributors now. Web 2.0 is also used now as a design standard of sorts, although no 2 designers will probably agree completely on what that really means. In a nutshell, simple, beautiful, efficient and powerful design with easy to use navigation, current color pallets and lots and lots of CSS in lieu of messy old HTML code.
